From losing her mother’s ashes (yes, really) to unearthing a dog using questionable tactics, misplacing Uncle Fat’s casket, and accidentally scattering part of her dad’s ashes on two snorkelers in Honduras, Marta delivers a memoir that is touching, honest, and full of laughter.
“This book was born out of the number of times someone said I should share the crazy story about my mother’s missing ashes,” Smith says. “I wanted to preserve the story for my family and help others reflect on their own losses and family chaos with humor and humility.”
A retired public-school teacher and administrator, Marta now lives with her husband Gregg in Gunnison, Colorado. When she is not writing, she enjoys skiing, hiking, reading, and crafting wood products in the shop she and her husband built together. We Lost Mom’s Ashes is her first book, with a second one already in progress based on the story of her grandfather who once shot a man at a town dance in 1906.
