Karen L Moran PhD Shares a Powerful Journey of Art Identity and Survival in Forever Tourmaline

Author and psychologist Karen L. Moran, Ph.D presents Forever Tourmaline, a reflective and emotionally rich memoir that traces one woman’s journey from artistic innocence into a world shaped by danger, discovery, and transformation.

Forever Tourmaline begins with Karen’s childhood among free spirits and dissidents in Topanga Canyon. As the daughter of artists, creativity feels inevitable, yet her inner calling pulls her beyond the safety of home and into unfamiliar territory. Through startling events and vivid dreams, the memoir unfolds as an odyssey of self discovery, revealing how imagination, intuition, and courage guide her toward an unexpected and meaningful conclusion.

The book is deeply influenced by myth, psychology, and creative practice. Inspired by Joseph Campbell’s enduring question, “What myth are you living?”, and the work of writer Deena Metzger, Karen began exploring symbolic imagery as a way to understand her inner life. During a workshop with Metzger, the image of Panther emerged, first taking form through poetry and painting before becoming the heart of this memoir. Writing Forever Tourmaline became a way to engage the deepest level of her soul and uncover who she has been beneath the surface of experience.

At its core, Forever Tourmaline speaks to a universal truth. Life that begins in simple innocence inevitably encounters complexity and evil, yet each person holds the power to adapt and shape a way of living in the world. The memoir invites readers to reflect on their own journeys and the creative forces that help them endure and evolve.

Karen L. Moran spent thirty years as a psychologist and has studied art, anthropology, and archetypal psychology. She has traveled extensively worldwide and continues her creative work in painting, poetry, and songwriting. She lives with her husband and a small menagerie of animals in Topanga Canyon, California, where she grew up.
