Bangkok, Thailand – 9 March, 2026 – Bihar has taken a significant step toward strengthening tourism ties with Southeast Asia with the successful launch of the Lotus Triangle Tourism Initiative in Bangkok. The program, designed to promote Bihar’s Buddhist and spiritual tourism, was unveiled at a mega event held at the Hilton Grand Ashok Hotel through a joint initiative of Sun Leisure World and the Bihar Foundation – Bangkok Chapter.

The launch event was attended by distinguished representatives from Bihar Tourism, the Ministry of Industry – Government of Bihar, Bihar Foundation, the Embassy of India in Bangkok, the Indian Cultural Centre (ICCR) Thailand, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the India-Thai Chamber of Commerce, along with prominent members of Thailand’s travel and tourism industry.

Welcoming the distinguished guests, Mr. Sanjeev Chaturvedee expressed his appreciation to all partners and stakeholders for their participation in strengthening tourism cooperation between Bihar and Thailand.

During the event, Mr. Amit Kumar, Managing Director of Sun Leisure World and Chairman of the Bihar Foundation – Bangkok Chapter, introduced the Lotus Triangle Package, a specially curated 5 Nights / 6 Days Buddhist discovery journey covering the sacred destinations of Vaishali, Bodh Gaya, and Rajgir, the spiritual heart of Buddhist heritage in India.

Highlighting the unique value of the program, Mr. Kumar explained that the package offers an exceptional opportunity for Thai travellers and Buddhist devotees to experience the land of Lord Buddha through a carefully designed travel experience that includes:

He described the initiative as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for travellers who wish to experience Bihar not just as tourists, but as devotees walking in the footsteps of Buddha.”

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, Secretary, Department of Tourism, Government of Bihar, presented the complete Buddhist tourism circuit of the state, highlighting the government’s initiatives to strengthen tourism infrastructure and promote new destinations. He also introduced emerging attractions, including newly developed Tiger Reserves, reflecting Bihar’s growing tourism potential and evolving image as a dynamic travel destination.

Dr. Deore further indicated that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bihar Foundation – Bangkok Chapter and the Department of Tourism, Government of Bihar will be discussed internally and is expected to be formalized in the near future. He also assured full support for a Familiarization Trip (FAM Trip) expected in April, which will bring Thai travel stakeholders, tour operators, and influencers to explore Bihar’s tourism offerings firsthand.

Representing the Embassy of India in Thailand, Mr. Muthu Ramachandran, Counsellor, provided detailed information on Indian visa procedures, including the online visa application process. He welcomed Thai travellers to visit India and assured the embassy’s support in facilitating travel under the Lotus Triangle initiative.

During the event, Mr. Thanaphat, Operations Manager of Sun Leisure World, introduced the company’s role in promoting international travel experiences and supporting tourism collaboration between Thailand and India. Ms. Jirachita, Outbound Sales Manager, also shared details about the planned travel departure schedules for Thai travellers visiting Bihar.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Mr. Sushil Dhanuka, President of the India-Thai Chamber of Commerce, acknowledged the efforts of all partners and organizations that contributed to making the event successful.

Representatives from VietJet Airlines also presented their flight connectivity and promotional fares supporting travel between Thailand and India.

The event concluded with strong interest from the Thai travel industry, resulting in multiple group reservation commitments from travel operators.

As part of the launch promotion, Sun Leisure World distributed 3,000 promotional travel tickets offering a 40% airfare discount, which could potentially translate into 3,000 tourists visiting Bihar, generating an estimated USD 3 million in tourism revenue for the state.

With the launch of the Lotus Triangle initiative, Bihar aims to attract up to 30,000 tourists between March and October, positioning the state as a leading destination for Buddhist pilgrimage, spiritual tourism, and cultural exploration in Southeast Asia.

The initiative marks a new chapter in strengthening Bihar–Thailand tourism cooperation, opening doors for greater cultural exchange, investment, and international travel to Bihar.
